With the New Year comes a time to start fresh, reflect on past goals and begin to implement new, healthy habits. How can we make reasonable, achievable new year’s resolutions that we can carry through the next 12 months? In this article, we share 22 New Year’s Resolutions that are reliable, achievable, and can get you closer to your health & wellness goals this new year!

1. COOK SOMETHING NEW EACH WEEK

Add some variety to your weekly dinners or plan your weekly eating-out meal at a local food hub you’ve never been to before! Expanding your horizons when it comes to food is a great way of breaking up a routine and it can be something you look forward to each week!

2. LIFT WEIGHTS

While cardio workouts are optimum for burning calories quickly and building up your endurance, strength training is a great way to burn fat, tone and build new muscle, and implement a new exercise into your workout routine. 

3. EXPLORE NEW HOBBIES

Attend a pottery class, visit your local theater, try rock climbing! Vamp up your free time with a fun activity to enjoy with friends, family, anyone!

4. INVEST IN A SKINCARE ROUTINE THAT WORKS FOR YOU

With countless brands of skincare products on the market today, it can be hard to find brands that elevate your complexion without breaking the bank. So take the time and do the research to find brands and products that have shown to work on your skin and are reasonably priced.

5. TAKE THE STAIRS

Elevators feed out laziness. Opt for a better route and take the stairs instead! Taking the stairs could give you that energy boost you need during a long workday while burning some extra calories too!

6. CUT OUT SOME SCREEN TIME

Looking at a screen all day has its setbacks: increased headaches, irritated eyes and can even affect your ability to fall asleep at night. So put the phone down at the dinner table, while out with friends and especially in the bedroom, you’d be surprised how much extra time you have in a day!

7. HYDRATE. HYDRATE. HYDRATE

Consuming a sufficient amount of water throughout the day can provide your body with numerous benefits you didn’t know you were missing. Buy a cool, new refillable water bottle for a little extra fun with each sip!

8. GET INTO PODCASTS

Sometimes breaking up your normal playlist queue can spark some extra energy, interest, and excitement in your daily routine. Search for podcast topics that you are interested in and start listening, learning & switching up what you listen to!

9. TAKE A VACATION

Getting away for a while can greatly improve your mood, mental health, and overall well-being. Do your research, arrange your budget and find time to escape reality for a while!

10. REARRANGE YOUR FURNITURE EVERY FEW MONTHS

The new year is all about starting fresh and getting a new outlook. Start with one room in the house and revamp the arrangement to create a whole new space that you never knew existed!

11. SET A BEDTIME ALARM

This may seem very elementary, however, setting an alarm for bedtime can be very useful for time management after work as well as ensuring your body is getting proper sleep for the day ahead!

12. MIX IN MORE VEGGIES

We have all heard before that a colorful meal is a healthy one, but how can we be sure we are getting the proper amounts of each food group to really feel our bodies?! 

13. GET INTO BOARD GAMES

Rather than having friends over for a movie, pull out a favorite board game and make it even more interesting! Board Games are a great alternative way to socially interact and get people together!

14. DO ONE THING AT A TIME

Life can get very cluttered at times and while we think we are being efficient by tackling 5 things simultaneously, we are not getting things done as quickly and as well as we could if we slowed the pace a bit. So make a numbered list of things that need to be done and start at #1!

15. START JOURNALING

Sometimes we just need to take time to relax and process things. Whether it be a stressful moment or pesky thought that you need to vent or a happy memory that you don’t want to forget, journaling is a great outlet to speak your mind wherever, whenever!

16. BUILD A RELIABLE BUDGET

Saving more money is more often than not a major yearly goal for people, especially if there are at the early stages of adulthood. Build a budget that works for you, set a weekly spending limit, and gauge your weekly, monthly, and yearly revenue in order to save up for the big moments in your life!

17. BE MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

This year, make it your goal to take the necessary steps toward becoming more earth-conscious. Use reusable grocery bags, carpool with a friend, ditch plastic water bottles, and get a hydro flask instead!

18. SWITCH UP YOUR WORKOUT ROUTINE

Try a Zumba, hot yoga, or a spin class with friends! Sometimes ditching the treadmill and signing up for Pilates is just what you need to work out and feel your best while burning some major calories!

19. PRIORITIZE TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK

We can get into the habit of getting home from a long day’s work only to pick up our phone to check unread emails that can easily be read the next morning. It is important to prioritize your out-of-office hours with yourself/family/friends and leave the work ‘til tomorrow.

20. KNOW YOUR BODY BETTER

Ever find something off about your mood, stomach, or skin after eating certain foods or drinks. It’s time to take care of your body from the inside out and learn more about why you react to certain foods more than others. Do your research, talk to your physician and find out how you can cut out certain ingredients, add in necessary supplements and get the extra help your body deserves.

21. DECLUTTER YOUR CLOSET

Every once in a while a good deep clean of your wardrobe is just what you needed and what better time to start than the new year! Sort through what you ACTUALLY wear and donate your giveaways to a local charity or thrift store! 

22. BECOME MORE HEALTH-CONSCIOUS

In a world and a time where cleanliness and health are our top priority, it is essential that we are getting knowledgeable about our health. That means maintaining a well-balanced (colorful) diet to ensure you are taking in the necessary nutrients and exercising regularly to keep your mind and body right. Invest in cleaning products that are made to kill the germs in your car, home, and workplace to help keep a healthy home, especially through cold/flu!
